Brotherhood

The CBHT Brotherhood, from its founding in 1942, has provided services and programs locally for the men of our congregation and also for the entire congregation and community.

The mission of the CBHT Brotherhood is to foster positive relationships among its members, provide opportunities for Jewish experiences, perform g’milut chasadim:deeds of loving kindness, and support the needs of the Temple and the Temple community.

In 2008, the CBHT Brotherhood led an initiative to develop what has become the Mountain Area Interfaith Forum, which brings together clergy and lay leaders from many different religious faiths in western North Carolina. Since its founding, MAIF has been involved as an interfaith alliance in several issues related to national, state, and local concerns.

The CBHT Brotherhood holds Sunday Brunches several times yearly and provides food, fellowship, and interesting programs for the congregation and guests. Programs have included speakers on politics, local history, Holocaust survivors, and humor. The annual congregation picnic, put on by the CBHT Brotherhood with assistance from Sisterhood, is a summer favorite. The Lag B’Omer picnic and hike put on in the spring is another favorite. The CBHT Brotherhood presents a gift of a book on Judaism to all B'nei Mitzvot and to every new Convert to Judaism and supports the religious school students with attendance awards. The CBHT Brotherhood also puts on fund-raising activities, provides high holiday ushering, co-sponsors events such as the Break-The-Fast and the Scholar-In-Residence weekend and is involved in other Temple service projects.

The CBHT Brotherhood participates actively in projects to support the community, such as Meals on Wheels, Shalach Manot Purim gifts, and also makes donations to other worthy causes such as the Asheville-Buncombe Christian Community Emergency Heating Fund, Mazon and Manna.
