Religious School At Congregation Beth HaTephila's Religious School, we are "Growing Jewish Lives". Our dedicated faculty works hand-in-hand with families to bring a love of Judaism to life in a way that will inspire a lifetime of Jewish learning and a strong commitment to Jewish community life. How do we accomplish this? By providing children ages 3 – 13 with exciting opportunities to engage with Jewish tradition, Jewish history, Hebrew instruction, Torah, and tephila in ways that not only ignite their intellectual curiosity, but that involve them in body and spirit as well. We learn through books and discussion, but we also learn through games, art, music, and movement. We understand that learning requires private reflection and also social interaction. We are here to bring a love of Judaism to life with real life experiences that range from praying with kavanah to doing mitzvoth in our immediate community and out in the Greater Asheville community. Each day begins in our sanctuary with Rabbi giving our students Jewish food for thought to carry them through their day and Cantor singing a song that gives new, musical life to our Rabbi's words. As you wander our halls, you might find our youngest children painting a mural of Jonah and the whale (complete with a mirror so that little ones can imagine themselves inside the great fish's belly!), while our middle grade students are outside collecting samples from natures to show evidence of G-d's gifts to us, and our older students are writing their Hebrew roots of the words from their prayers in shaving cream and sand. Learning is a joyous, experiential activity at Congregation Beth HaTephila. I hope you'll come join us! B'Shalom, Lauren Rosenfeld Religious School Director |
