Honoring our teens and Life-Long Service Award

Please come celebrate with us at our special service during which we will recognize our B’nai Mitzvah students for their Mitzvah projects.  In addition, we will give out our annual ‘Lotte Meyerson Lifelong Service Award’ to Jackie and Chuck Itzkovitz for their many contributions to the CBHT Tikkun Olam Committee and their lifelong pursuit of social justice and repairing the world – a tenet of Reform Judaism.

March 20th is also the HIAS/Immigration Shabbat weekend around the country.  Ellen Fisher will speak during the LMTO Shabbat about HIAS and immigration from the Jewish perspective.  You are encouraged also to join CBI on the 21st as their HIAS speaker discusses the refugee problem around the world and how to help.

The Lotte Meyerson Tikkun Olam Committee will provide the oneg for this special evening.  There will also be a table set up featuring our many upcoming projects and information on some of the organizations our B’nai Mitzvah students have supported.

ONEGS HAVE GONE GREEN!

If you haven’t already noticed, our temple is no longer using paper or plastic beverage cups at our Friday Onegs.  Many months ago, at the urging of the L.M. Tikkun Olam Committee, we asked that only washable glassware be used.  So, we have introduced our new, washable metal kiddish cups – a hammered finish for wine and a smooth finish for grape juice.  How cool is that!  If you have any suggestions for us to incorporate better recycling and/or more environmentally-friendly practices, please contact Sam Hausfather, LMTO chair.

Save these dates in your calendar

Save these dates for our Scholar-In-Residence Rabbi Neal Gold. September 10th—13th.  Read his website: www.nealgold.net and become a Patron so that we may bring him to CBHT.  He has just finished editing the new Danny Siegel Anthology which comes out in May from JPS.  We need 29 patrons to donate $100 each to bring us to our goal!

ROOM IN THE INN Host Week Follow-Up

Much appreciation to over 20 temple members who enabled us to cover three night’s worth of assignments during our host week mid-February.  Our volunteers, many who were ‘first-timers’, helped out as van drivers, cooks, servers, lunch bag providers, and overnight supervisors for the RITI women.  Thanks to all of you, we were able to take care of up to 12 homeless women at our host site each night to provide a safe and caring place to sleep as well as share a home-cooked meal with them, give them breakfast, and offer them a healthy lunch to take with them as they left the site each morning.

We will be hosting our second RITI week at our temple on June 7th—13th this summer.  Please mark your calendars, as we’ll once again need many volunteers.  Thank you CBHT community!

Sherrill Zoller,

Tikkun Olam liaison for RITI

The 2020 World Zionist Congress Elections  are now open for voting!

The World Zionist Congress is the World Zionist Organization’s legislative body that is representative of the world’s Jewish people.  This election is the key democratic opportunity to make our voices heard in Israeli society.  In order to help raise the issues of religious freedom, equality, and more, vote for the Reform slate titled: “Vote Reform: ARZA Representing the Reform Movement and Reconstructing Judaism.”  By growing the Reform Movement’s voice in this sphere, we can do our part to strengthen our positive impact in Israel.  Vote until March 11th at www.zionistelection.org.
