Who:

Sharon Fahrer, our renowned Asheville historian will present a program highlighting ‘Asheville's Jewish Women Superstars,’ women from the Jewish community who have been recognized by the larger community for their contributions.

Sharon Fahrer co-founded History@Hand with Jan Schochet, with the intent of documenting the history of Jewish businesses. Together they created a book and an exhibit entitled, The Family Store, a History of Jewish Businesses in Downtown Asheville from 1880-1990. As well, Sharon wrote A Home in Shalomville. the History of Asheville's Jewish Community.

Sharon also created the Jewish Museum without Walls highlighting locations which are part of Asheville’s Jewish history. In addition, she leads walking tours in downtown, including a Jewish history tour.  She collects material for Asheville’s local archives at UNC Asheville and Pack Memorial Library.

What:

This program includes women, both past and present, involved in a wide range of activities. These include nonprofit volunteering, leadership, writing, the arts, and busines. Many of these women have served as inspirations to others. Some have been forgotten and some you might know!

CBHT Sisterhood Social Action Committee Requests Your Support – Helpmate and JFS

CBHT Sisterhood has been working in many ways to support these two organizations as they assist those in need in our community.   Given the COVID situation we have reached out to these two organizations asking what is the best way we can help and their reply was gift cards.  So we are asking for your help in supplying gift card(s) in amounts ranging from $10 to $25 for either Helpmate or Jewish Family Services.

Helpmate clients fleeing domestic violence many times find themselves in need of basic items that can be obtained in a gift card immediately.

JFS provides consultation and counseling to individuals who are experiencing mental health and financial difficulties and need a little assistance to get some basics very quickly as well.

There are three ways you can send Gift Card(s) to either Helpmate or JFS:

1. Obtain gift card(s) at Target, Walmart, or Ingles. Then email Judy B Kaplan
and Gail Sobel at SisterhoodSA@bethhatephila.org and we will arrange to pick up the Gift Card(s) from you.

2. Should you wish to write a check contact Judy B Kaplan and Gail Sobel at SisterhoodSA@bethhatephila.org and one of them will give you the information to send the check to the Sisterhood Treasurer so your Gift Card(s) to either Helpmate or JFS from either Target, Walmart, or Ingles is purchased and given as you designate.

3. Go online to the Target or Walmart website and purchase an e-card and have it emailed to:

For JFS: admin@jfswnc.org

For Helpmate:king@helpmateonline.org

When you put in who it is from, please write CBHT Sisterhood after your name so they know the E-card is part of this drive.

Our Social Action Committee is striving to help you make a difference in our community by making a difference in the lives of the clients of Helpmate and JFS.

Should you have questions or concerns please email the SisterhoodSA@bethhatephila.org.
